Volcanos & Convergent Boundary Project with Minecraft PE

How It Started

Mrs. Y asked me if we could incorporate Minecraft PE into her plate tectonics & volcano unit. I thought it would be great for students to create a diagram of a volcano and a plate tectonic boundary. So I decided to create the diagram over the weekend. 

Steps in Creating the Minecraft Diagram

 1. Find a seed that would be appropriate for the project 

I googled "extreme hills seeds" for a world that would provide numerous mountains I can use for my volcano. I ended up finding seed# 975281896. 

 2.  Find a volcano and plate tectonic boundary diagrams

 

3.  I created my volcano diagram using a hill I found that depicts the vent, pipe, magma, and magma chamber. 

4. I created the convergent boundary diagram that illustrates a plate submerging and melting into the asthenosphere. 

5. I "labeled" my diagrams with this huge sign.

I hope to have Mrs. Y's students record themselves describing the diagrams they created using Minecraft to demonstrate mastery of the key concepts in the unit.
